When an animal touches two metal contact points simultaneously, it completes an electrical circuit that delivers a mild correction. This is comparable to the static shock that one might experience while walking across a carpet. The correction delivered by the WildBills™ Squirrel-free Bird Feeder is designed to only surprise squirrels and does not cause any harm to them or any other animals.
Due to a bird's physiological characteristics, the WildBills™ Squirrel-free Bird Feeder cannot harm them. Birds possess bills, feathers, and scale-covered feet that insulate their bodies. Additionally, their feathers contain oil that, combined with other physical characteristics and trapped air, prevent any electricity from reaching their body even in the most extreme wet conditions. Therefore, the WildBills™ Squirrel-free Bird Feeder is incapable of adversely affecting a bird.
While the correction delivered by the WildBills™ Squirrel-free Bird Feeder is not harmful to one's health, it may still cause a startle or surprise. For this reason, it is best to ensure that the feeder is turned OFF whenever you are filling or handling it. Additionally, always keep the bird feeder out of reach of children.
The lifespan of a new 9V alkaline battery is approximately 3-4 months, depending on the frequency of static corrections delivered. In instances where there is an abnormally high squirrel population, the battery life will decrease accordingly. Therefore, it is recommended to use high-quality batteries at all times.
To ensure proper functioning of the WildBills™ Squirrel-free Bird Feeder, please follow these steps:
The WildBills™ Squirrel-free Bird Feeder is designed to provide a static correction only when a circuit is completed, which occurs when two metal contact points are touched simultaneously. However, during weather conditions such as rain, snow or ice, the circuit may not be completed due to moisture on the metal parts. In such cases, the feeder will undergo continuous correction for approximately 3 seconds before the fail-safe switch kicks in and shuts down the feeder until the issue is rectified.
It is essential to note that this is not a malfunction. The 9V circuitry is designed to turn off after 3 seconds of continuous operation to prevent battery drainage and avoid harm to any animal that may have inadvertently gotten caught in the feeder.
Once the feeder is dry and the weather clears up, the fail-safe resets. To ensure proper operation after severe weather conditions, it is recommended to turn off the power and thoroughly dry the feeder. Don't forget to turn the power back on after resolving the issue.
